Meet the Leader of Iraq!

Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr was a very important person in Iraq. He was born a long, long time ago, in 1914. He became the president of Iraq and led the country for many years, from 1968 to 1979.

That's longer than you've been in school! He was a military officer, which means he was a leader in the army before becoming president. He was part of a political party called the Ba'ath Party, which had big ideas about how countries should be run.

Adventures in Power!

Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr's journey to becoming president was like a thrilling story! First, he helped lead a big change in Iraq called the 14th of July Revolution, which changed the government. Later, he became prime minister and then vice president.

But sometimes, leaders change, and his government was removed. He and his party had to work behind the scenes for a while. Then, in 1968, he and his party took power again in a big event called the 17th of July Revolution.

This time, he became the top leader!

Iraq Gets Richer!

When Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr was president, Iraq became much stronger and richer. This was partly because of oil! The world wanted a lot of oil, and Iraq had it.

This meant Iraq had more money to spend on its people. They shared the wealth, and many people's lives got better. They also made changes to how land was owned, making things fairer for everyone.

It was a time when Iraq grew a lot, like a plant getting lots of sunshine and water!

A Special Team-Up

Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr was a very important leader, but he also worked with another powerful person named Saddam Hussein. Saddam Hussein was al-Bakr's cousin and became very important in the government too. At first, al-Bakr was the president, but over time, Saddam Hussein became more and more powerful.

Eventually, al-Bakr decided to retire because he wasn't feeling well. He left his job as president in 1979, and Saddam Hussein took over.
