Who Was This Emperor?

Agustín de Iturbide was a very important person in Mexico's story! He was born a long, long time ago, in 1783. For a while, he was a soldier for Spain, which was like the boss of Mexico back then.

But then, he decided Mexico should be its own country! He helped make that happen and even became Mexico's very first emperor. He wore a crown and ruled for a little while, but then things changed, and he had to leave.

From Soldier to Leader!

Agustín started his career as a soldier in the Spanish army. Think of it like being on a team, but his team was the one in charge. He was really good at his job and fought against people who wanted Mexico to be free.

But then, he had a big change of heart! He decided to join the side that wanted independence. He was so good at leading that he brought together different groups of people, like a super team, to win freedom for Mexico in 1821.

Mexico's First Emperor!

After Mexico became independent, Agustín was chosen to lead. First, he was like the president of a special group, and then, guess what? He was crowned Emperor Agustín I!

This was a huge deal because Mexico had never had an emperor before. He ruled from a fancy palace, but his time as emperor didn't last very long. It was like a very short, exciting play where he got to be the star, but the story quickly moved on.

A Sad Ending

Even though Agustín helped Mexico become free and was its first emperor, his story didn't end happily. After he was no longer emperor, he went away to Europe for a while. But he loved Mexico so much that he came back. Sadly, when he returned, he was arrested and executed. It's a reminder that even important historical figures can have complicated and sad endings to their lives.
