Where Do These Elephants Live?

Imagine a super green, super wet jungle! That's where the African forest elephant calls home. They live in the thick, steamy forests of West Africa and a huge jungle called the Congo Basin. It's like a giant, leafy playground where they can hide and explore. These forests are full of tall trees and lots of rain, making it a perfect place for these gentle giants to roam around.

Meet the Forest Elephant Family!

African forest elephants are very friendly and love to stick together. They live in families with about 20 elephants, mostly moms and their daughters and sons. The grown-up boy elephants, called bulls, leave their families when they get older and usually like to hang out by themselves. The boy elephants only join the family groups for a little while when it's time to find a friend.

Yummy Forest Snacks!

These elephants have a special diet! They love to munch on leaves, fruits, and even the bark of trees. They are like super gardeners because as they eat, they spread seeds all over the forest in their poop! This helps new trees grow and keeps the jungle healthy and full of different plants. They eat from at least 96 different kinds of plants!

Forest Elephants Need Our Help!

Sadly, there aren't as many African forest elephants as there used to be. People have hunted them too much, and their forest homes are getting smaller. Scientists are working hard to protect them because they are so important for keeping the forests healthy. It’s like they are the jungle’s best friends, and we need to make sure they stay safe!
