Actor–network theory

Actor-network theory, or ANT for short, is like a special way of looking at the world. It says that everything, from people to toys to ideas, is connected in a big, invisible network. Nothing is alone!

These connections are always changing, like a game of tag where everyone is always moving and linking up. It helps us understand how things happen by looking at all the pieces and how they talk to each other.

A group of clever thinkers, like Michel Callon and Bruno Latour, came up with ANT a while ago. They were studying how science and technology work. They noticed that when something new is invented, it's not just the inventor who makes it happen.

It's also the tools they use, the people who try it out, and even the ideas that inspire them. They realized that everything, big or small, plays a part in making things work.

ANT is super cool because it says that even things like a pencil or a computer can be 'actors' in a network! This means they can help make things happen, just like people. For example, a pencil helps you draw, and a computer helps you play games or learn.

ANT helps us see that these 'things' are just as important as people in making our world go round. It's like saying your favorite toy has a role in your playtime!

Think of a spiderweb. Each strand is connected to others, and if you touch one, the whole web wiggles. ANT looks at how different 'actors' – people, objects, ideas – are linked together.

When one actor does something, it affects all the others in the network. It's not about one person being in charge, but about how all the connections work together to create something new or make something happen.
