Fun Fact
This agreement was made during a time called the Wars of the Roses, which was a big fight for the English crown!

Who Gets the Crown? A Royal Tug-of-War!

Once upon a time, England had a king named Henry VI. But another important person, Richard, Duke of York, thought he should be king instead! Richard said he was related to the king's family, just like Henry, but in a way that made his claim even stronger. He even sat on the empty throne to show he meant business! This was a super big deal because it caused a lot of arguments and even fighting.

The Big Agreement Paper!

To stop all the fighting, people wrote a special paper called the Act of Accord. It was like a peace treaty! This paper said that King Henry VI could stay king for his whole life. But, after he was gone, Richard, Duke of York, and his children would become the kings and queens. This meant that King Henry's own son wouldn't get to be king, which made his mom, Queen Margaret, very unhappy!

Not Everyone Was Happy!

Even though King Henry agreed to the Act of Accord, his wife, Queen Margaret, was furious! She didn't want her son to miss out on being king. Many other important people in England agreed with her. So, instead of stopping the arguments, the Act of Accord actually made things worse and led to more fighting. It was like trying to put out a fire with more fuel!

A New King Arrives!

Sadly, Richard, Duke of York, was killed in a big battle. But his son, Edward, was very brave! He fought another battle and won. A few months later, Edward became the new King of England, King Edward IV. So, even though the Act of Accord tried to make a compromise, it ended up leading to a whole new king and more changes in who ruled England.
