Meet the Giant Mountain!

Acotango is a super tall mountain that looks like a giant sleeping on the border between Bolivia and Chile. It's part of a group of three mountains called Kimsa Chata. Acotango is the tallest, like the big brother in the family! It's so high that its top is way above the clouds, and only the very top has a little bit of ice, even when it's super cold.

A Mountain with a Long, Long Story

This mountain is very, very old, like older than your grandparents' grandparents! Scientists think it might have been active a long, long time ago, maybe even spewing out lava. Over thousands of years, ice and wind have shaped it, making it look a bit worn down. But there was a lava flow on one side that looks much newer, like it happened more recently, which is exciting!

Adventures on the Slopes!

People love to hike up Acotango! It's in amazing national parks called Sajama and Lauca. Imagine walking through beautiful landscapes! If you want to climb it, it's safer to go from the Bolivia side. The path might take you past an old copper mine, which sounds like a treasure hunt! But be careful on the Chile side, as there might be land mines.

A Home for Nature

Acotango is in a special place where nature is protected in national parks. Even though it's so high and cold at the top, there's ice there! Down lower, where it's not as freezing, plants can grow. It's a wild and beautiful place, and it's important to keep it that way for all the animals and plants that live there.
