2024 Sri Lankan parliamentary election

In Sri Lanka, people vote to choose who will be in their Parliament. Think of it like picking the best players for a super important team! In 2024, they had a really big vote on November 14th. They needed to pick 225 people to join this team. This team helps make all the rules for the country. It's a very important job!

One team, called the National People's Power, won SO many seats! They won 159 seats, which is more than any team has ever won before in Sri Lanka! That's like winning almost every game in a whole season. They won in almost every part of the country, except for one place called Batticaloa. It was a really, really big win for them!

This election was special because lots of new people got to join the Parliament team. More than 150 people were chosen for the first time ever! Also, more women were elected than ever before. This means the team is becoming more like all the people in Sri Lanka. It's exciting to see new people and more women helping to lead!

Before the big vote, the old Parliament was finished on September 24th, 2024. Then, people had to sign up to run for the election from October 4th to October 11th. After all the voting was done, the new Parliament team officially started their work on November 21st, 2024. It was a busy time of choosing and starting new jobs!
