Mauritius Votes!

In Mauritius, a beautiful island country, people get to choose who will lead them. It's like picking the captain of your sports team, but for the whole country! In 2024, everyone who was old enough got to vote for the people they thought would do the best job.

There were two big teams, or 'alliances', trying to win. One was called Alliance Lepep, and the other was Alliance du Changement. They wanted to convince everyone that their ideas were the best for Mauritius!

Sometimes, exciting things happen right before an election! In Mauritius, there was a bit of a mix-up with secret messages being listened to, which is not allowed. Then, the government decided to block social media for a little while, like turning off the internet!

But people said, 'No way!' and they turned it back on quickly. It was a busy time leading up to the big vote, with lots of people talking about what was happening.

On November 10, 2024, it was election day! Over a million people, which is more than the number of people living in some big cities, went to vote. They lined up and put their choices in special boxes.

It was so exciting that the most people voted in years! When the votes were counted, one team, Alliance du Changement, won by a LOT. It was like winning a game by scoring way more points than the other team!

After the votes were all counted, it was clear that Alliance du Changement had won. The leader of the other team, Pravind Jugnauth, said, 'Okay, you won!' and congratulated the new winners. Navin Ramgoolam, the leader of Alliance du Changement, became the new Prime Minister.

He was sworn in, which is like a special ceremony to promise to do a good job. It was a big change for Mauritius, and everyone was ready for the new leaders to start working!
