Who Gets to Lead the Country?

In Ghana, grown-ups get to vote for the people who will be in charge of their country. It's like picking the captain of your sports team or the head of your school! In 2024, they had a special day called an election. They voted for a new president and also for people to represent their towns in a big meeting place called Parliament. It’s a way for everyone to have a say in how things are run.

A New President is Chosen!

The person who was president before couldn't be president again because he had already served for as long as the rules allow. So, people had to choose someone new! John Mahama, who used to be president, won the election this time.

He got lots of votes, so he didn't even need a second round of voting. His teammate, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, also made history by becoming the first woman to be elected Vice President of Ghana. That's super cool!

Picking the Lawmakers Too!

Besides the president, people also vote for members of Parliament. Think of Parliament as a big room where lots of smart people discuss and make the rules for the country. In this election, one team called the NDC won a LOT of seats – they got 185 out of 276!

That's like winning most of the games. The other team, the NPP, got 87 seats. It’s important that many different people get chosen to represent everyone.

Why This Election Matters!

Elections are like the heartbeat of a country. They let people choose their leaders peacefully. When leaders are chosen fairly, it helps the country stay strong and happy. This election was extra special because a woman became Vice President for the first time! It shows that everyone can reach for the top. It also shows how important it is for people to vote and be heard.
