Key Facts
The Big Planet Party!
Once a year, grown-ups from almost every country get together for a super important meeting called the UN Climate Change Conference. Think of it like a giant school project for the whole Earth! In 2023, this big party happened in a place called Dubai.
The main goal was to talk about how to keep our planet from getting too warm, which can cause problems like melting ice and stronger storms. They try to make plans to help the Earth stay healthy for everyone.
A Long Time Coming!
This isn't a new idea! The first time leaders met to talk about climate change was way back in 1992. That's older than your parents!
They've met almost every year since then, except for one year when everyone had to stay home because of a big sickness. Each meeting is like a new chapter in a story about protecting our planet. The 2023 meeting was the 28th time they got together, so it's a really long-running effort!
Why It's a Super Big Deal!
Why do they have these meetings? Because our planet is like our home, and we need to take care of it! If the Earth gets too hot, it can cause problems for animals, plants, and people.
It can make the weather go a little crazy, with more floods or really dry spells. The leaders at this meeting try to agree on rules, like using less energy that makes the air dirty, to stop the Earth from warming up too much. It’s all about making sure we have a safe and happy planet for the future.
Making a Promise for the Future
At the 2023 meeting, the leaders made a special promise. They agreed to start moving away from using energy from things like coal and oil, which make the air dirty. They want to use more clean energy, like sunshine and wind!
Their big goal is to stop adding so much pollution to the air by the year 2050. This agreement is called the 'UAE Consensus'. It was the first time they specifically said they need to move away from all types of fossil fuels.
