What's a Women's March?

The Women's March was a super big gathering of people who wanted to speak up for fairness and rights for everyone, especially women. It happened on January 21, 2017, the day after a new president started his job. People marched because they were worried about some of the new ideas and words being shared. It was like a giant, peaceful wave of people saying, 'We care about these things!'

Think of it like a huge school assembly, but instead of being in one school, people were in cities all over the world!

Where Did All These People Come From?

The biggest march was in Washington, D.C., the capital city of the United States. But guess what? There were also marches happening in so many other places! People marched in almost every state in the U.S. and in 81 other countries, too. Some people even marched in Antarctica! It was like a global party for fairness, with millions of people joining in to share their voices.

Why Was It So Important?

This march was a really big deal because it showed how many people cared about making sure everyone was treated fairly. The people marching wanted to tell the new leaders that women's rights are important for everyone. They wanted to make sure everyone had the same chances and was treated with respect. It was a way for people to show they were paying attention and wanted good things to happen.

Amazing Numbers!

Can you imagine more than 470,000 people in just one city? That's how many people were at the main march in Washington, D.C.! All together, in the United States, between 3 and 5 million people marched. Worldwide, over 7 million people joined in! That's more people than live in some whole countries! It was the biggest one-day protest in the U.S. at that time.
