Who Gets to Be the Boss?

In 2017, people in Germany got to vote for who they wanted to lead their country. It's like choosing the captain of your school's sports team, but for grown-ups and for the whole country! They were picking the people who would sit in a special room called the Bundestag to make important decisions. There were lots of seats to fill, and each vote helped decide who got to sit there.

The Big Race for Votes!

The main team, led by a lady named Angela Merkel, got the most votes, but not as many as before. Another team, the SPD, had a tough time and got fewer votes than they had in a very long time. But guess what? A new team called AfD got a lot of votes and got to be in the Bundestag for the first time! It was like a surprise player joining the game and doing really well!

Surprise New Teams Join the Fun!

Some teams that weren't in the special room before managed to get enough votes to join the big meeting. The FDP team came back after not being there for a while. And the Left and the Greens teams also got lots of votes. It was exciting because it was the first time in many, many years that a team from even further to the right than the main team got to be part of the government. Wow!

Making a Team to Lead!

After the voting, the teams had to work together to form a government. Sometimes, it's hard to agree! The main team and the SPD team decided to work together again, like they had before. It took a really, really long time to figure out who would work with whom. It was the longest time ever for Germany to decide on its leaders!
