Canada's Big Vote Day!

On October 19, 2015, grown-ups in Canada got to choose who would lead their country for the next few years. It was like picking the captain for a big team! Lots of people wanted to be the leader, and everyone had to vote. This special day is called an election, and it happens every few years to make sure Canada is run by the people everyone agrees on.

The Race for the Top Job!

There were three main teams, or parties, trying to win the most votes. The Liberal Party, led by Justin Trudeau, wanted to be in charge. The Conservative Party, with Stephen Harper as their leader, also wanted to win. And the New Democratic Party, led by Tom Mulcair, was another big team. It was a long race, like a marathon, that lasted for 11 weeks! That's longer than most summer holidays!

WOW! The Liberals Won Big!

Guess what? The Liberal Party won a LOT of seats in the House of Commons, which is where the leaders make decisions. They won 184 seats, which is more than half! This meant Justin Trudeau became the new Prime Minister. It was like they won the championship game! They got way more seats than they had before, which was a super big surprise!

Everyone Gets a Say!

More people than usual decided to vote in this election. Even young people, like teenagers who were just old enough to vote, showed up! It shows that everyone in Canada cares about who leads their country. When more people vote, it's a sign that everyone wants to be part of the big decisions. It's like everyone wanting to play on the team!
