Where the Sky Met the Lake

This story happened near a pretty town called Überlingen, right next to a big, sparkling lake called Lake Constance. It's a place where Germany and Switzerland are neighbors! The sky above this lake is usually full of happy travelers flying to exciting places. But on this day, the sky became a place of a very sad accident.

Two Big Birds in the Air

Two giant airplanes were flying that day. One was a passenger plane, like the ones you might fly on with your family, carrying lots of people. The other was a cargo plane, like a flying truck, carrying special packages. These planes are HUGE, much bigger than a school bus! They were flying at super high speeds, thousands of feet above the ground.

A Tricky Sky Puzzle

Sometimes, when planes are flying, there are special computers that help them stay safe and not get too close to each other. But on this day, there was a mix-up with what the computers were telling the pilots. It was like a puzzle where the pieces didn't fit perfectly, and sadly, the two planes ended up on a path to meet.

Remembering What Happened

This was a very, very sad day. Many people, including children, were on the planes and were lost. Investigators looked very carefully at what happened to try and understand it. They learned that sometimes, even with all the technology, things can go wrong, and it's important to learn from these events to make flying even safer for everyone.
