What Was This Secret Mission?

Once upon a time, a very powerful and scary leader named Adolf Hitler was in charge of Germany. Some brave people in Germany didn't like how he was ruling the country, and they thought he was making terrible decisions. So, they came up with a super secret plan called the 20 July Plot.

Their big idea was to try and stop Hitler and change the course of the war he had started. It was a very dangerous plan because if they got caught, they would be in big trouble!

Who Were the Brave Plotters?

The people who made this plan were soldiers, leaders, and important people who worked with Hitler. One of the main leaders was a man named Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg. He was a brave army officer who had seen a lot of the war.

He decided he had to do something to stop the terrible things happening. He and his friends worked together, whispering and planning in secret, hoping to save lives and end the war sooner.

How Did They Try to Do It?

The plotters decided the best way to stop Hitler was to try and blow him up! Colonel von Stauffenberg carried a special briefcase filled with a bomb. He took this briefcase to a meeting where Hitler was supposed to be.

He put the briefcase under a big wooden table near Hitler. But, by luck (or maybe bad luck for the plotters!), someone moved the briefcase just before it exploded. The bomb still went off, but Hitler only got hurt a little bit!

What Happened Next?

Even though Hitler survived, the plotters thought he was dead. They tried to take control of the government and tell the soldiers to stop fighting. But Hitler was alive!

He was very angry, and he found out who had tried to stop him. Sadly, many of the brave people who were part of the 20 July Plot were caught and punished very harshly. Even though their plan didn't work, they showed that even in dark times, people can try to do what they think is right.
