Key Facts
Who Gets to Be the Boss?
In 1993, Canadians had a super important job: choosing who would lead their country! It was like picking the captain of a giant team. People voted for leaders of different political parties, and the party that got the most votes got to be in charge. This election was extra exciting because it was a really big change from who was in charge before!
A Giant Shake-Up!
Before this election, one political team, called the Progressive Conservatives, had been leading for a long time. But many people weren't happy with them. So, new teams popped up, like the Liberal Party, and others that were popular in different parts of Canada. It was like a whole new set of players joining the game, and everyone was curious to see who would win!
The Biggest Win EVER!
Guess what? The Liberal Party, led by Jean Chrétien, won SO many votes that it was the biggest win for a new leader in Canada's history! They beat the old leaders by a really, really big number. It was like one team scoring way more points than the other, making everyone say 'WOW!' This big win changed how Canadian politics worked.
New Teams on the Block!
Two brand new teams, the Reform Party and the Bloc Québécois, became super popular! The Reform Party was mostly popular in Western Canada, and the Bloc Québécois was popular in Quebec. They were like new kids on the playground who were really good at their own games and got lots of attention, changing the whole playground dynamic.
