Key Facts
Who Was in Charge of the Oil Treasure?
Once upon a time, a country called Iran had lots and lots of oil, which is like black liquid gold! A big company from a country called Britain was in charge of getting this oil out of the ground. But the leader of Iran, named Mohammad Mosaddegh, thought, 'Hey, this oil is ours! We should be the ones in charge!' He wanted to make sure Iran got a fair share of the money from its own oil.
A Secret Plan Was Made!
The British company didn't like this one bit! They told their friends in the United States, 'Help us! We're losing control of the oil!' So, the leaders in the US and Britain made a secret plan, like a spy mission! They wanted to make sure the leader who was friendly to them stayed in charge, not Mosaddegh. It was like a surprise party, but instead of cake, it was about who got to control the oil!
What Happened on That Day?
On a day called August 19th, 1953, things got very busy in Iran. People who were paid by the US and Britain, and some who were maybe a little bit scary, went into the streets. They made it seem like lots of people were angry at Mosaddegh. This made it easy for the leaders who wanted him gone to take over. Sadly, some people got hurt during all this confusion.
Who Got to Be King?
After Mosaddegh was no longer in charge, a man named the Shah, who was like a king, got to rule Iran more strongly. He was very happy to have the help of the United States. For many years, he stayed in charge, and the world remembered this day as a time when powerful countries changed who was leading another country, all because of oil!
