What Was This Big Uprising?

From 1936 to 1939, many Arab people in a place called Mandatory Palestine were unhappy. They wanted to rule themselves and didn't want outsiders making big decisions. They also didn't like that many Jewish people were moving into their land. It was like a big protest that lasted for a long time, with people wanting their voices to be heard and their land to be their own.

When Did It All Start?

Things got really heated when two Jewish people were hurt, and then two Arab workers were hurt too. This made everyone very angry. A leader named Amin al-Husseini, who was like a very important person in Jerusalem, called for everyone to stop working for a day. This day was called 'Palestine Day'. It was like a big signal that people were ready to show they were serious about their feelings.

What Did People Do?

At first, people stopped working and protested peacefully. But then, things got more serious. The British, who were in charge at the time, sent lots of soldiers and police. They tried to stop the uprising. Sometimes, people from different Arab groups even disagreed on what to do, and some worked with the British to try and stop the fighting.

Did It Work?

Sadly, the big uprising didn't get the Arabs what they wanted. The British were very strong and had many soldiers. Many people were hurt or worse. It was a sad time for many families. The events of this uprising had a big impact on what happened later in the land of Palestine.
