Meet the Cubs and the Sox!

In 1906, two baseball teams from the same city, Chicago, played against each other in a super important game called the World Series. The Chicago Cubs were AMAZING! They won almost every game they played that year, more than any other team.

They were like the superheroes of baseball. But then, they had to play the Chicago White Sox, who were nicknamed the 'Hitless Wonders' because they didn't hit the ball very well. It was a big surprise waiting to happen!

The 'Hitless Wonders' Strike Back!

Even though the White Sox didn't hit much, they were really good at pitching, which is throwing the ball. They won the first two games against the super-strong Cubs! The Cubs won the next two games, so it was tied.

Then, in the last two games, the 'Hitless Wonders' suddenly started hitting the ball really well! They got lots of hits and won the whole World Series. It was a huge upset, like a small kid beating a giant in a game!

A Record-Breaking Game!

During one of the games, a pitcher for the White Sox named Ed Walsh was super speedy and strong. He struck out 12 players from the Cubs! That means he threw the ball so well that 12 players couldn't hit it. This was more strikeouts than anyone had ever gotten in a World Series game before. It was like he had a superpower that day, making him the star of the game and helping his team win.

A Series Like No Other!

This 1906 World Series was super special because it was the first time two teams from the same city played each other for the championship. Before this, teams from different cities always played. It was also the first time for both the Cubs and the White Sox to even be in the World Series. So, it was a brand new adventure for both teams and for baseball fans everywhere!
