Meet the Mighty Baseball Teams!

Long, long ago, in 1886, two amazing baseball teams played a super important game called the World Series. One team was the St. Louis Browns, and the other was the Chicago White Stockings. They were like the champions of their leagues! Everyone thought they were just as good as each other, like two superheroes with equal powers. People even bet money on who would win, and the odds were even!

When Baseball Was Brand New!

Baseball back then was a little different from today. The World Series was a new idea, and these two teams were some of the first to play for the big championship. It was played over six days, from October 18th to October 23rd. That's almost a whole week of exciting baseball games! The games happened in both St. Louis and Chicago, so fans in both cities could cheer for their teams.

A Surprise Twist in the Game!

Things got tricky for the Chicago team! Their best pitchers, the ones who throw the ball super fast, got hurt. One had a sore foot, and another hurt his arm. This meant the other pitchers had to throw a lot more. The St. Louis team even got to pick a new pitcher, which made the Chicago team a little upset! It's like if one team had too many players and the other didn't.

The Most Famous Slide Ever!

The very last game, game six, was super close. It went into extra innings, which means they played more than the usual number of rounds. Then, a player named Curt Welch made an amazing slide! He slid into home base after a ball got away from the catcher. This slide was so famous, people called it the '$15,000 slide'! It won the game and the whole World Series for the St. Louis Browns!
